Capability blocks

Capability blocks support the tracking of a learner's skills, knowledge and behaviours with self-rating and evidence options and built-in assessment tools.

About capability blocks

A capability lets the learner self-rate their skills, knowledge and behaviours and attach evidence to confirm their claims. While the blocks visually appear similar to others, they have additional features built-in by default:

  • Comments - allowing informal discussion about the rating and evidence.
  • History - a timeline of previous self-ratings (if properties allow).
  • Approvals - an assessor can add a Red, Amber, Green (RAG) rating in ATLAS.
  • Reports - an assessor can track evidence and approval progress in ATLAS.

Capability blocks are also required where a template properties or workbook properties has mapping enabled.

Also see: the learner's guide to mapping an asset and completing a capability.

Evidence

An evidence block provides a placeholder for a learner to attach assets as evidence. This block does not include an additional self-rating scale.

Custom properties

Minimum allowed evidence

Indicates the minimum number of assets required to be attached as evidence. When reached, the block will automatically mark itself as complete.

Shared block properties

The following shared block properties can be adjusted:

  • Hints on asset view
  • Show empty fields in view
  • Privacy state
  • Mandatory for progress
  • Duplicate block

Numeric

A numeric block provides a self-assessment rating scale, with the option to add assets as evidence.

Custom properties

Numeric range

Increase or decrease the number of squares contained in the scale. Set the starting number, with a maximum range of 20 in-between.

Change and justify

Set if the learner is able to change the number of their initial response. Where allowed, each change will require the learner to type a written justification for the change. A history of all changes is logged.

Justify on first choice

Set if the learner is required to write a written justification on their initial response.
