A workbook is a structured resource designed to support you through a learning process with instructional prompts to guide what you write, select and attach.
What is a workbook?
A workbook is a collection of structured pages typically containing all the activity for a learning experience, such as:
Each workbook’s design is unique and intended for a specific purpose. The pages guide you through a process and can be accessed from the contents or menu bar.
The selection of workbooks available is based on your course enrolment.
![]() | Workbook Resource - is a blank version from which you take a copy. |
![]() | Workbook Asset - is your working version which is saved in the Asset Store. |
The availability of workbook resources may change between semesters or years. However, once saved as an asset, the workbook remains in your Asset Store.
Open a workbook
When working with a workbook for the first time, a copy of the resource must be taken and saved to the Asset Store.
To open:
- From the burger menu choose > Resource Store
- Find the resource from the list - using the search or filters to refine.
- Click the workbook title to open.
- Click Save - a workbook asset title is added to the Asset Store.
- To close, use the navigation bar to return to the dashboard.
A workbook will typically be completed over a period of time. To continue working on it, reopen the asset from the Asset Store.
To reopen:
- From the burger menu choose > Asset Store.
- Find the asset from the list and click its title to open.
Single Use workbook
By default, a workbook is marked as Single Use, meaning only one copy of the resource can be taken and saved as an asset in your Asset Store. This ensures you only complete one workbook, not multiple copies.
If you try to use a single use resource again, when a copy of the workbook is already in your Asset Store, you will be redirected to your current asset. A second copy cannot be taken.
Complete a workbook
Working with a workbook involves many actions:
Complete a template
Templates are pages with a pre-defined structure. They will differ depending on their purpose and the content they are asking you to gather. Read more on completing a template.
Add a placeholder page
A workbook may require you to use one of the creative tools to add an Activity log, Blog, Collection or Page within your workbook. Read more on adding a placeholder page.
A workbook can also contain Activity Logs and Collections with predefined criteria which cannot be changed, but you can add assets once the search toggle is activated.
Add evidence
A workbook may require you to attach other assets to provide background context or proof of your work. You can add evidence anywhere there is an +Add button. Read more on adding evidence.
Complete a capability
A workbook may contain capability blocks, requiring you to self-assess your skills, knowledge or behaviours and provide evidence. Read more on completing a capability.
Mark & track progress
Workbooks typically contain many pages and it's necessary to keep track of what is yet to be started, in progress but incomplete, and pages fully complete. Read more about tracking progress.
